History Education?

“IT IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN TO LEARN ABOUT LOCAL HISTORY THAN WORLD HISTORY. TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?”

Some people believe that the importance of local or national history outweighs the importance of world history. They opine that there are no benefits to understanding and learning world history. I disagree with their points of view for some good reasons and described below.

Firstly, I agree with the outlook that school children ought to familiarize themselves with local history. At the onset, it offers them a sense of belonging and pride when they learn about their former times. Most countries had gone through a bloodbath of their freedom. They will know about the invaluable sacrifices that their ancestors made for the privilege. Moreover, which is more prominent, they will learn about the origin and key values of their motherland. In this way, they will be able to carry forward their customs to the next generation with a story to tell always.

Secondly, knowing about world history has its own characteristic level. In this globalized world, the interdependence of trade has made folks travel the world. These young children surely receive benefits when they are grown up and move or travel around easily for any purpose. Armed with the broader prospective, they are able to integrate into the local culture of other nations. This bank of knowledge helps them to know about the past evolution and the origins of people across the globe.

Ergo, I support learning history of nation and world for young children as it makes sense and serves the purpose.
